How Our Story Began, and Where We Are Now

In March 2023, we opened the Miellerie de Provence online shop. Three years on, here is where we started, what has changed, and what has not moved an inch.

A simple idea: honey harvested in Provence deserves a beautiful setting

It all began with something our family kept noticing. Some of us had known the apiaries of Provence for more than ten years; others came from e-commerce and communications. And all four of us made the same remark: the region’s finest honeys are sold in jars that do not do them justice. Dated labels, gold lids, the look of a Sunday market stall. Yet lavender or thyme honey, served on a well-laid table, has nothing to envy an estate olive oil or a grand cru chocolate.

That is how Miellerie de Provence was born: to select exceptional honeys harvested in Provence, and to present them in a simple, elegant jar, designed for homes and hotels that love Provence without the folklore.

What we do, and what we don’t

Let us be clear, because it is a question we are often asked: we do not produce honey. We are selectors. Every year, we taste the harvests of Provençal beekeepers we know, and we choose six honeys, not one more: lavender, thyme, garrigue, chestnut, mountain and forest.

What we ask of the partner beekeepers we work with has not changed since day one: hives set in Provence, honey harvested when ripe, cold extraction, no pasteurisation, no blending with imported honeys, no added sugar. We explain all this in detail on our Our story page.

Why a 300 g jar

Because a honey with character is something to savour, not to get through by the kilo. 300 g is a month of breakfasts, the right size to discover a terroir, to give as a gift, and to come back for more. The black jar was designed to hold its own on a festive table. The first labels were printed in 2023; they have been redesigned since, but the idea has stayed the same.

What has changed since 2023

  • The range has settled at six honeys, with gift sets to discover them or give them: the lavender and garrigue duo, the three-honey discovery box, the complete collection.
  • The blog has grown: benefits, storage, which honey to give, the honey terroirs of Provence.
  • We work with hotels and delicatessens in the region, for whom we prepare gift boxes and corporate gifts.

What has not changed

We are still a small family team, in Aix-en-Provence. We taste everything we sell. We would rather not offer a honey one year than replace it with a honey from elsewhere. And we answer your messages ourselves: write to us with a question, a bulk order, or simply to tell us which of the six is your favourite.

Thank you to everyone who has followed us from the start, on Instagram, Facebook or through our newsletter. The adventure continues.
